Communication Station

The Final (Part 2) of the Fellowship examination of the College of Critical Care Medicine evaluates the candidates at the level of Critical Care Consultant. Therefore, as a part of this evaluation, they are evaluated for their communication skills. In this communication station a clinical scenario is presented to them and 2 minutes are given to the candidate to plan out in their mind how they will approach the family or colleague. The family is usually 1-2 doctors-actors. As they approach the family, introduce themselves, understand families understanding of the situation and then discuss and counsel the patient’s attendants and relatives, the candidate is evaluated for honesty, empathy, body language, ability to handle difficult relatives etc.
